FIRST COMMITTEE MEETING COMMENCEMENT OF CLASSES The first meeting of the newly formed St. John Ambulance Association ‘ committee was held in the Borough. Council Chambers on Thursday.last, the chairman. Mr. C. G. Culvert, presiding. Present woie: Mr. T. G ; Johnson (president, Dr. D. Meredith, Mr. L.. A. Partridge, Mr. W, Maxwell, Mr. D. L. Abbot, Mrs. Morcll, Mrs. Stott, Mr. Stott, Mr. J. Talbot, Mr. U. Bruton, Mr. A. J, Stitt, Major Jones, and Mr. W. R. Payne (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Miss Gillespie, Dr. C. S. Janies, Mr. E l . O. East and Rev. L. Clements.
An invitation .was received from SU John Ambulance Association, Whakatane, to attend the annual inspection at Whakatanc on Saturday next at 8 p.m. Two car loads of Opotiki members will make the trip. As some of. the officials from the South Auckland Centre will be present it was considered that thiswould be a good opportunity ot gathering information. Arrangements were made for the holding cf .the first parade of the brigade in the Maori Mission .Hall on °Monday, Ist. December from S pm. to 9.30 p.m. A number of names of persons who had shown interest in joining the classes, were mentioned, and it was decided to call for volunteers. Six Scouts and ten High Schools boys will also form a junior class. Tho Nursing Division and the Brigade will be iun as one class. - Arrangements for the purchase of bandages, splints, blankets and instruction books were left in the hands of "the chairman and secretary. The’organisation of the Nursing Division was discussed, and Mrs. Morell was asked to act as secretary on the opening' night. Power to add to the present com-
mittee was given. Enquiries have been made to the War Assets Realisation Board for uniforms and a reply has been received that Air Force uniforms suitable for use by the Brigade are
available to St. John Associations at 22s Gd each, with Od extra for the
buckle. Measurements of the members oE the brigade are required as early as possible, and so all prospective members are asked to eniol as soon as possible. Enquiries regarding an ambulance are being pursued and it is hoped to have this information at an early date.
