MAGISTRATE’S COURT The monthly sitting of the Opotiki Magistrate’s Court was held on Friday before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M. Sam l’apuui was charged that on 9th. August at Opotiki he did steal one gent's bicycle valued.at £l4, the property-of Samuel'Broughton. Defendant elected to be dealt with summarily and pleaded not guilty.

Papuni was convicted and fined

The Opotiki Borough Council (Inspector J. H. Morell) proceeded against James Lloyd Mack, who was charged that on 29th. September at Opotiki lie drove a car on Bridge Street at a speed in. excess of 30 m. P-h. Defendant did not appear and was convicted and fined £2 with costs 10/-. Inspector Morell also charged Sidley John Falkner, Waimana, a motorist, with failing to yield right of way to a pedestrian engaged in crossing such street within an authorised pedestrian crossing. Defendant pleaded not guilty, the information being dismissed. The inspector charged Charles Howard with riding, a bicycle on the footpath of Church Street on Bth. October. . Defendant did not appear and was convicted and fiued 5/- with costs 10/-. Charles' Sherman was charged that at Opotiki on- 30th. September he rode a bicycle on St, John Street after dark without the required light. Defendant did not appear and was convicted and fined 5/- with costs i 10/-. Mr. Morell also proceeded against Roy* John Robert* Young 1 on a charge that on J3rd. October at Opotiki he done a motor car on , Church Street not being the holder of a current motor driver’s license. Defendant made no appearance ■ the information being dismissed. Jules Donnor was charged that on

14th. October at Opotiki he did tether two cows for the purpose of depasturing or grazing on Wharf Road in Opotiki Borough. Defendant did not appear and was convicted and fined £1 with costs 10/-. Ben Gage was charged that on 14th. October he failed to prevent a cow from wandering on Albert Street. Defendant who failed to put in an appearance was convicted and fined £2 with costs 15/-. A similar charge of allowing .two horses to wander on Victoria Street was brought against Frank Ben Lanigan, who also failed to appear in court and was convicted and fined £l with costs 15/-. . .
