NOT SUCH A “PEACH”
COW’S RIDICULOUS TEST A little investigation has revealed that the wonder cow “Peach” in the Galatea district is not such a peach after all. Prior to being tested the cow had been off her milk and in the night milking for herd-testing purposes she gave the very good quantity of 33 pounds of milk. However during the milking for some reason or other the tester took the milk away after “Peach” had given 25 lbs. of milk. A portion of this was taken for testing and then the cow gave another eight lbs. of milk which must have contained an cxtraorinarily high butterfat. content. A sample was taken from this and added to the first sample, with the result that an altogether false test was given. The following morning the cow gave a normal quantity of 25 lbs. of milk, making the total for tlie two milkings 58 lbs. It is obvious that only a cow which gives consistently a great quantity of milk with a normal test can give high butterfat production figures. Freak butterfat tests just don’t go with heavy milk production.
