Retiring. Last week’s meeting of the local Fire Board was the final occasion that Mr. R. Wilson, an insurance company representative, would be attending as he goes into retirement shortly. Wrong Teeth, When his dentist put a lower denture into a Christchurch man’s mouth,' the latter found them extremely uncomfortable. “They always feel like that at first, but persevere,” the dentist consoled him, and persevere he did, through a long day of agony, to arrive home in the evening with a face swollen almost out of recognition and every nerve in Iris head shrieking protests at the torture. Unable to eat, he was still persevering, with the pangs of hunger added to his other torments, when the dentist rang his front door bell. “I’ve given you another man’s teeth by mistake,” the dentist explained.
Retired Miner’s Message. “When you get back to New Zealand tell them we are having a hard time over here and to do everything they can to help us.” This message was given to Mr. Hubert Brown, of Dunedin, who recently returned from England, by an 82-year-old retired miner. Mr. Brown said that the old man had spent 60 years working in various mines in Great Britain and that he had promised to pass on the message. “The people over there are most grateful for the parcels they receive. Everyone should try to help, especially in the matter of fat, which is very scarce,” Mr. Brown added.
"Healing Hands" The hands or Mr. Alexander Hunt, of Geraldine, arc squat and capable; they have done many an honest day’s toil. But to look at them, says the Timaru Herald, no one would guess that in those workworn fingers lies the power of healing, What special quality he possesses he can.not explain. "It is a gift,” he says. When he places his hands on an aching head or a face that conceals a throbbing tooth the pain will vanish. Twinges of rheumatism, lumbago, and sciatica have disappeared at his touch and frayed nerves have calmed. When he was a lad of 17 years, Mr. Hunt became aware that bis hands would “draw out pain” by gentle massage. Some patients need more treatments than others, and if a pain shows no sign of abating after he has worked on the affected part a. couple of times ho does not persevere. But there are few who do not find relief from his healing touch,

Cooper as chairman of the committee, was made the subject of a tribute paid by Sir. 11. 11. - Barker at the monthly meeting, of tile board. Mr. Barker said that the acquisition of the farm was- the subject of considerable controversy, and its recent management under the purely honorary supervision of Mr. Cooper had produced excellent- results and fully justified the existence of the project.
