ENGINEER’S REPORT The county engineer, Mr. AV. AV. Upton, reported as follows at tho monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council:— Progress: of Contracts ; Contract No. 60.3 for reforming, culvortiiig and gravelling 23. j chain,s of Dickinson’s Road has been completed. Contract No. 588 for raising and metalling 40 chains AVainui-Mntukercpu main highway is well in: hand, and should fa: completed shortly. %bntimet No. o-S'.l J’akihi. Bridge: Owing ta the non-arrival of two steel joists no work Ims been done on tho above siiue hist month. • These two joists arrived in Auckland at the end of last month, and may arrive hero next week.
Access to McKenzie’s, Wuiaya; 1 inspected this road) ,the portion requested t<, lie formed' with the grader is aIbng a grass flat of a few chains in length. As the traffic here is ..so- light I do not consider it advisable to disturb the surface.
Fence Encroachment: I have inspected the locality at which place Mr. I*. Withers complains that a road fence interferes with his access. As tho fence complained of, is on the edge, of a, steep hank, I cannot see that its removal would he of any benefit. Destruction of Ragwort; As the money available for this work will ho used up by the first- week in January and there being still work to do, 1 would recommondi that an application he made to the Department for further funds. >
Reeve’s Road Survey: I. shall probably have prices’ submitted for tho survey of this road very shortly, and Council can then deal with it. Works Carried Out: The raising and protecting the Runtime embankment is well in hand. For audit purposes, I would ask Council to cancel the contract that was once let for this work.

As arranged with the Rub lie AVorks Department its grader has trimmed up tho Oreto Station Road. Repairs have been done on. the AA’aiata Rend (late Beaufoy’s). Tl io grader has worked on tho AA’aiawa, Otara, AV.oodlands, Waiawa Block Access, Onmnhutu, and under arrangement, with tho Native Department on the Hinu Hmu Road.
