AN EXPENSIVE JOKE •j , I , ■ k MOTORIST FINED £2 Air. A. Coleman, S.AL, pre,sided at the monthly sitting, of the Opotiki Magistrate’s Court, when only a light calendar was dealt with. Sergeant J. Ishister conducted proceedings on behalf of the police. James Kieff was proceeded against by the police for failure to comply with the right-hand rule. Air. Ujej entered a plea of guilty. Sergeant Ishister stated that on 10th November defendant’s lorry collided with a motor-ear at a borough street intersection and the motor-car was badly damaged. Defendant had admitted that lie failed, to give way. The magistrate lined defendant £3 with costs Ids. Sonny Ngata was charged by the police with driving a motor-car in Church-street, not being the possessor of a. driver’s license. Dunstable AV. Cooper, in evidence., stated that defendant was standing in front of a ear with a crowd around him. To all appearances lie seemed to he intoxicated in charge of a ear. Ngata got into the car and when driving off was stopped by witness, who found defendant was quite sober. Ho stated that he had only been joking. AVlion asked to produce his license, it was found ho had none. Ngata was convicted and finodl £2 witJi costs 15s.
