A light on German knowledge of conditions in Britain is given in a letter received by a Wellington resilient from his sister relating the story of the aeroplane which was brought down recently near Edinburgh. She writes: “ heard from a farmer whose wife was beside the German plane that the man not wounded asked if lie might he allowed to write to his wife before lie was shot. 'I wo others, who wore being led along Prince s street as prisoners could not believe their eyes when they saw people going about as usual, and asked if they were shopping. They had been told we were starving here.” Worms Assist Bowlers. Worms play an important, part in maintaining a good howling green. Too many can spoil the level surlacc. Ton few allow the ground! to become bound and the grass dies. Alter the week-end lain tJio Whangarei Bowling Club’s greens were dotted with small mounds of earth, the work el the industrious worm brought out hv the rain. Ik the greens were rolled with these mounds, small lumps would ho formed which would divert the howls, so, prior to rolling, the mounds are scooped up. ’I he story is told of one green when' it was decided to remove all the worms. This was done, hut with disastrous results, as the ground was not aerated. In the end, worms had to he collected from other sources and \igain placed in the greens. Ceod News fur Boy Stouts.
