LOSING FAITH
PEORLE OF GERMANY
HITLER'S LEADERSHIP
MORE OPEN SPEAK. TNG
LONDON, Nov. 7.—Germans living at Aachen, who were previously extraordinarily reticent, now apeak more openly on conditions in Germany, says a correspondent of the Daily Titlegraph at'l£liipen, on the Belgian irontier.
This is mainly because of the unhurried calm with which the Allies are prosecuting the war and a deepening conviction that Herr Hitler is no longer a dictator of events as lie was in Austria, Czechoslovakia and Poland. The Germans are becoming nervous and are losing confidence in him. The British leaflet raids are puzzling them. Many have attempted despite the prohibition, to obtain copie.s recently dropped. 'These urged Iho ‘jerinaii m'wspnpors to fully publish Mr. Neville Chamberlain's latest speech. ..Germans are ajso listening more frequently to foreign,:, broadcasts because of the growing distrust of Die German ones.
Coffee Unobtainable Although food is below the normal German quality, it does not” lack quality. Nevertheless, roasted and compressed figs are being sold instead of coffee, which cannot be obtained. A soldier stated that workers had beep withdrawn from the Siegfried Lino for tinny training. Many Gel'lliqn troops have been arrested for breaches of discipline. An officer, who is a veteran, of the last war, said that before tbo ivar the ‘Germans believed that a, fa mi no might cause a revolt, hut they have \ . , 7 , * altered their opinion *in view of the fact that food is more abundant than
was expected. Herr Himmler, lie ,>aid, was now Nazistp’s strongest man and would instantly crush any attempts at a rising, as lie had proved by executions l'or minor misdeeds.
