The defence was taken by surprise and the leading section attacked three seaplanes which could be seen on the slipways. The Royal Air Force planes then turned their machine-guns on the seaplanes and the machine gun posts on the roofs and pompoms and then made off. No enemy fighters came up to engage them and no aircraft wore observed om the return, flight. In response to German statements to the contrary, the British. Air Ministry died arcs : “All our machines returned safely from the Royal Air Force night reconnaissance of the north-west oi Germany on Monday. .1 here is no truth whatever in the German allegation that our aircraft crossed! Holland. The Royal Air Force met adverse weather, electrical storms and ice conditions. However, the operation was successfully concluded.
