RECRUITING FOR HEALTH
Why do more than thirty per cent, of the young men and women in this country avoid all organised sport and recreation ? inquiries show that this is largely due to reserve or psychological resistance to the making of contacts for themselves, coupled with ignorance of what, is offering. A Recreation Card scheme is therefore being instituted by tbe v Physical Welfare Branch and the Education authorities for the benefit of girls and youths leaving school. Numbers .of these cards will be distriked to the schools during the next threeweeks, together with an expanatory circular. With the help of parent- or teacher the pupil will be able to draw up a balanced programme of all-the& year-round, .sport and recreation. 'l'ltis information will be placed at the disposal of the sporting and. recreative' organisations. Only schools in those districts in which Area Instructors of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Branch are already operating, namely the Waikato, Wellington and Southland, will be approached as personal supervision of the ..post-school
development of the scheme by thoso officers is desirable.
