THREE YOUTHS ARRESTED

THEFT FROM SHOE WINDOW CAR PREVIOUSLY STOLEN Three youths were smartly arrested by the Opotiki Police early this morning in connection with the theft of a car and the theft of goods from the window of the Farmers’ Trading Company in Opotiki. At about 7 o’clock this, morning, Mrs. G. Hamilton, of Olciore, AVnioeka. Gorge, telephoned the Opotiki Police Station, informing tlio police of the suspicion!s' movements of three young men. on the Waioeka road. Air. Hamilton had spoken to the men who said they had left their car on the roadside, and were walking to Gisborne as they had run out of bonfcine. Constable llathio proceeded tot the spot in a car, noticing the deserted vehicle on the side of the road about 15 miles from Opotiki, bearing an Auckland registration number. Constable R abide caught up with the youths six njiles further on. at a spot four oir five miles beyond M.r. Hamilton’s fit rm.

The y.omths were arrested and brought to Opotiki where they were questioned concerning the theft of it car from Onelnmga. The car was Morris S sports model, valued at £l5O, the property of Mr. L. P. Spear, Queen Street, Onehungn, and was stolen on the night of November 15. It Wits driven through Tauranga itnd Opotiki. where it arrived in the early hours of this "morning.

The youths, it is alleged, being hungry, attempted to force open the front door of the Cash, sit id Carry Department of the 'Farmers’ Trading Company. but they were unsuccessful, only succeeding in. bruising the wood of the d.oublo dkwrs. r Phey then turned their attention to the window from which they took a broken piece ol glass, and, reaching through, secured three boxes of eoeolates and three tins of peaches.

It is probable that on account of the: youth of* the arresed men they will appear before the children’s court.
