S MOTION MANY BENDS TO BE ELTMiINATED W ith tin- heavy part of the widening and straightening work cm the Coast road nhn,o«l\ completed, the Public Works Department is now to turn its attention t<» the straightening of the AYaiotahi section ol the Opotiki-Tar.ca-tua main highway.
A large quantity of machinery that has been used on the Coast road will he brought up to Opotiki to he used at AYaiotahi. The mechanical shove] which will -be brought up on Monday will he of great assistance in the cutting which is to he put through the hank at the end of the bluff, thrift eliminating a series of had bowls. After passing through the embankment the road will run ;u little to the left of its present line, and! will cut through the t,oe of the two hills on the Hunter Estate and the property of Mr." AVyliie. Continuing in a straight line the road will cross its present line and run to the right of the existing roadway, across the property of Mr. G. Wilkins, where a number of workers’ tents nave already been erected. The new roadway will recross the present road near the AYaiotahi bridge where a. now bridge will be erected just to the left of the present structure. For the present the roadway will continue in a. straight lino towards the AYaiotahi store, hut it is possible that when a further section of the road is undertaken, it may pass behind the store. The new improvements will provide an almost straight roadl from .lie Avniotahi hluff t'j the store and will be greatly appreciated by residents of those parts.
