YACHTING

YESTERDAY’S RACE Only six boats competed in the race on the ’Opotiki harbour yesterday afternoon. The race commenced! at- 3.11 o’clock and three boats failed toi finish within the time limit. The competitors were Silver Wings (D. Talbot) 6 mins; Opah (S. Chatfield) scr.; Endeavour (CL Carruthers), scr.; Popeye (C. Brownie), scr.; Mamene (S'. Hill), 8 mins.; Marie (P. 'Warren), 11 mins. The race started with a moderate north-west wind, but soon after the start, rain began to fall and the wind died away. Only three boats completed the course of three times round .approx. 5- miles), within the time limit. The race resulted : Opah (S. N. Chatfied) 4.41 T .... 1 Endeavour (C. Carr others) 4.43 J 2 Popeye (0. Brownie) The Opotiki Yachting Club’s next race will be started at 10 a.m. on Sunday next.
