UNITED STATES PRESIDENTS The following letter appeared in the. Auckland Star over the lioiu do plume of “Laud l'veak” : _ With the election in the United States of America for a- new Presidentdue in June, 1910, 1 feel sure the following strange fact will draw much attention from your readers: Ever since 1800 every fourth man elected President has died in office. The man to lie elected next June, unless President liasevelt wins a third term, will lie a “doomed fourth” if history repeats itself, as the following table shows: Zachary Taylor (died); AJi 1 lard Fillmore. Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln (assassinated) ; Am lire w Johnson. 'Ulysses Grant, Rut Iter ford Haves, James A. Garkcld (assassinated); Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland.
