XE l X V ENT 1 OX WEEDS AX ACRE AX HOUR Farmers of the Gisborne* district will be very 'interested! in a local invention, a handy maize- weeder, which has. been patented by Mr. Alt’ Poison, Alakauri, who has had many years’ experience in growing maize on the Gisborne fiats, states the Gisborne Herald. ’The implement comprises a double row of long spring steel teeth that taper a gradual point. These teeth scratch along the two rows of maize with a chattering action and wood the crop in a most efficient maimer. It is designed to handle the weeding ol maize from the two-leaf stage until the crop is approximately lit. high. The depth or penetration of the teeth can he altered to suit varying conditions by adjustable wheels. Thedraught is light, one horse easily pulling the machine, and one man can efficiently deal with an acre an hour. Many farmers who have seeii the weeder have 'expressed the unanimous opinion, that it will bo of great service to maize-growers, and! as well as doing the/work efficiently, will reduce* gr.eatly|[tho labour cost of bringing u maize drop to profit.
