Centennial Celebrations. :t A special general meeting of the Opotiki Centennial Celebrations Committee is to be held on Thursday. October 20, when very urgent business will be discussed. Clark referred to the need of improving the nurses’ accommocilation at the hospital, pointing out that the rooms were b a tile in need of papering and brightening up. He stressed the need of making the living conditions much better ail’d considered the . Opotiki accommodation inferior to other hospital. Mr. Clark said that the board could dot expect to keep the nurses if inferior accommodation is provided. \ Coeds Commandeered. At a meeting of farmers held at Edgeeumbe, it was stated that a Government inspector had visited the Kangitaiki dairy factory with three big lorries and had removed the company’s stock of rooting iron and; water piping, it was stated that the-com-pany by judicious buying had obtained a large quantity of iron and piping for use by factory suppliers. Complaints are now being made that tbe farmers will be unable to roof their pig houses and assist in thei Government’s appeal for increased production. It is understood chat iron had also been commandeered irem AYhakatano firms. Early Day Land Values. The early days in the Dominion, when tin'* Government embarked on its “cheap land” policy, were recalled by Mr. I>. G. Begley, speaking at a meeting of-the Hastings branch of the Farmers’ Union.
