EVIDENCE CONC/LUDED VERDICT Of 1) DOWNING The inquest concerning the death oi Charlotte Canning Wilkins who was toumil dead in a ditch near the Opotiki Hospital on October 1U was concluded yesterdav. before Air. E. J. 81ml t. the District Coroner. Dr. Jaipes, in evidence, stated the deceased was under treatment ler a nervous and was progiessing favourably. She was allowed up on Bth. October, On the night of bill, sin was not so well. At Li a.in. the Sister reported to witness that deceased had cleared out. A search was made for her by the staff and the police. r l he indications were that deceased died as tin l result of drowning. She must have reached the ditch in a thoroughly exhausted condition and would not have enough strength to get out. 'l'he Coroner's verdict was that the deceased! came to her death in the Opotiki Hospital grounds, on ft), the cause of death being drowning.
