QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT ONLY ALLIED PLANES ACTIVE 7 LONDON, Oct. 4. An official French communique issued last night through the British Ministry of Information states: -“Enemy raids have been repulsed to the east of the Moselle and east of the Saar. Artillery is active on both sides of the same regions.” Tho Paris paper, Lo Matin, says that so far the Germans have made no great effort to recapture the small positions taken by the French, army. Artillery lire by both sides was active to-day south of Zweigruckcn. . ' The military expert of the Petit Parisien states: “Nothing doing along the Rhine. The submarines are sleeping at’sea. Only French and British planes are active in the air.” An official broadcast in Paris states that over 30 enemy planes, were shot down in the past month, excluding unproved losses. French planes flying over Germany opposed German planes and barrage fire. The losses were few in view of the results obtained. .T’iie special correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain with the French army reports that there is very little animosity to Germany among the French, who refer to the Germans as the “adversary’’ and not as the enemy. The correspondent states that the same unemotional attitude characterises the lighting by’ French artillery, who lire on the Germans, after which the Germans reply for a similar period, ending the exchange of shots. A communique issued in Berlin by the German High Command says that there is almost complete quiet on the Western Front. STILL HOLDING OUT FIGHTING GROUPS OF POLES BOLSHEVIK ATI ON OF SOVIET ZONE * LONDON, Oct. 4. A communique issued in Berlin by the German High Command states that lighting .is still going on with scattered Polish troops in the territory between the former revised demarcation lines in Poland. Reports reaching Holland indicate that Herr Hitler is leaving Berlin to-night to lead a triumphant march by German troops into Warsaw. He is to speak in the Reichstag on Friday. A message from Ankara states that the Polish Ambassador does not recognise the partition of Poland. The Berlin correspondent of the New York Times says that the first account of tin* .Bolshevisation of Polish territory to appear in the German press states that 501),000 pictures of M. Stalin and M. Lenin have been distributed among the poor in the West Ukraine alone. Up to 1,400,000 Communists hooks, with movies and gramophone records have kept abreast of the marching troops. The schools are being reopened and teachers in evening classes are being instructed in the spirit in which the tuition, of the future is to be given. Religion and Polish history are no longer to he taught. Propaganda work is being carried out among prisoners of war. Organisations are being founded in ('very village and hamlet. One of the principal duties of the organisation is to seek class enemies - from police, army others, nobles, estate owners, anil members ol the Government.
ARMS EMBARCO AMERICAN VIEW “DICTATORS MUST BE STOPPED” „ WASHINGTON, Oct, 4. Senator George Norris, the only survivor of the six senators who voted against Americas entry into the Great W'ar, last night praised the Administration’s proposals to amend the Neutrality Act. Senator Norris, in a< broadcast, said the- proposed revisions would protide almost certain protection against the United! States being involved in war. He denounced as barbarous, inhuman, uncivilised, unjustified and unmerciful the methods Herr Hitler and M. Stalin adopted to further their “unholy ambitions.” He said that America’s sympathies lay with ’England and France. The dictators must be stopped or civilisation would be destroyed.
