RECREATION WEEK
CONCERT AND COMMUNITY SING SPLENDID ATTENDANCE The organisers of the combined concert and community sing must have been well satisfied with the attendance in the Regent -Hall last night, when between 500 and 600 people were present. The concert was organised as part of the -“.Recreation Week” activities. The whole of the programme was well received, encores being the order of the evening. The concert was so popular that rocyjests have already been received for a similar function in the near future. The cotlecton taken up resulted in approximately £l3 being handed to the committee. The accompanists during the evening were . Alesdames Holmes. Duff, Sinclair; and Mr. McDougall. Violin obligatos were played bv Air. Stan Pearce. Additional items were supplied during the evening by Alt. Mellon gall’s orchestra, which received a good hearing. During an interval, Mr. de Montalk thanked all those who had come forward to contribute items or give assistance in any way. He also made a strong appeal for support- to. the big combined sports afternoon on the reserve on Saturday, to he followed in the evening by tlie special dance, which is being organised by the O.D.H.S. Old l Pupils’ Association. The programme was as fellows:— “God Save the King”. Viking Song, by the Choral Society. “There Was An Old Woman”, Choral Society. Ventriloquial item, by Air. Geo. -Lysaghtand good old “Tommy”. Songs by Air. H. S: Holines,. “Blue Dragoon” and “'l’ake Off Your Coat”. Songs by Airs. Doff. “Old Violin” and “Chapel Bells”. Orchestral Items. Songs by Mr .E. Seville, “A Ragged Vagabond” and “Old Father Thames”. Community singing. Songs by Airs. Burke including “You Will Remember Vienna”. Violin, solos by Air. S. , Pearce. Sketch, “The Jordans’ Wedding Anniversary”, by four members of tlie Opotiki Orphans’ Club. Songs by Air. A. G. Stevenson, “Smiling Thru’ ” and “Down Every Roadway”. Community singing. Songs by the school choir, “Gay Highway”, “Po Kare Kare Ana”, “All Through the Night”. These three items were particularly well received by the audience. The programme concluded with three items by the 'Choral Society, “England”, “Land of Our Fathers”, “God Defend New Zealand”.
