E. Johnson, clonk of the court, who left yesterday for Ngarua wahia. cauip. where he has joined other .members of the Special Force. Mr. J. T. Merry said that they were proud that Mr. Johnson was going to the front and l proud of the fact that he had set an example to others. They were vow sorry to lose Air. .Johnson as ho had proved himselt to be a very capable servant apfd they all hoped to see him return before long. It was his pleasant duty to present to Air. Johnson a small gilt- which they all hoped would be a reminder of Opotiki. Air. Hodgson, who spoke' on behalf of the legal profession, said all agreed that ATr. Johnson was the best clerk of the court they had bad lor vcTy manv vears. ’I bey all regretted veiy much that he was leaving, blit it was inevitable that- lie would g<>. Air. Johnson would carry with him their very best wishes for the best of luck and a safe return. The Mayor (Mr. G. S. Moody), said that people bad always 10-uud Air.
