ANNUAL • MTEETINGPR.ESIDT.LVrs ' REPORT The following report was presented by the president, Air. J. AlcCaldon. at the annual meeting of the Opotiki Red and Gun Club, which was held in the Labour Social Rooms last night:— Your executive take pleasure in presenting the report- and balance sheet covering the activities of the club during the past year. Jiefore proceeding further, I might mention that- the present international situation, together with local restrictions have somewhat curtailed attendance at shoots, although the acting. Prime Alinister’s advice to all sports bodies is to carry ,cxn with their seasonal programmes. Steady progress is well maintained'. The membership now stands at 138. Cash balances, £SO Is 2d and assets at £l6O 2s 5d.. Liabilities nil. Quarterly and shooting committee meetings have been well attended r your executive trusts that more sportsmen, many of whom appear unaware of the club’s activities, will help to revive the interest in all. acclimatisation matters. The installation of the automatic trap and base helped greatly in the success -of the season’s operations. A refreshment- room was added, making facilities now available to shooters, comparable with any in the province. Two challenges'liar the Rotorua Cup were entered, the* last occasion being, successful. 'The winning team is to be congratulated upon its excellent performance against such solid Bay competition. Air, Jack Ross, captain of* the team, deserves special credit for his untiring efforts in coaching theteam and generalship shown. Air. Ernie T,orrie. lifted, the trophy for the highest aggregate during tlirseason. to whom congratulations am extended. The annual Bay of Plenty Rod and Gun Club’s Conference was held in this centre. Delegates from the various centres were present. The majority of the remits submitted to the Alinjster of .Internal Affairs met with approval. Pri,or to the conference, visitors and members were invited to a game dinner, which was an outstanding success. To the incoming committee, 1 would recommend .holding this event annually. Your executive wish to collect chit a relative to stocking of the lower East Coast rivers in this area. Many members assisted the Depart-, meat of Internal Affairs in liberating this season, 4-10,666 brown trout fry. Further planting of rainbow- fry am due shortly. A full quota, of pheasants were released, and your executive 1 is now negotiating with the Department with a view to rearing and distributing pheasant eggs to any member or farmer interested. 1 wish to thank the ladies and dam e committee for their loyal and energetic services at the shoots. Likewise, tlie thanks of the club are due to -Ur. G. S. ALeody, our worthy patron for his .untiring assistance and use of grounds. Thanks are also due to -Alessrs. EParkinson and Reg. Walker for Gazetting their farmsas game sanctuaries. also to the Opotiki Borough Council for having declared the reservoir and ■catchment- area, a game sanctuary. I trust, gentlemen, that- the coming season will be equally successful. These gatherings of sportsmen are the brightspots in life, and I. do hope interest in them will not wane.
