SPRING CATTLE FAIR

The New Zealand Loan and -Uercan-,, tile Agency Co. Ltd. report; as follows : on the spring cattle fair held in, the Opotiki saleyards yesterday:— We had a good yarding of mixed’ cattle in fair condition, which met- with good competition so far as aged cattle ..A, were concerned, but bidding on the 18- . month cattle was 'poor and shows no advance on late rates, (tur principal entry was the annual draft- from Willtuare.Station on account of .Mr. A. 3S. f Blake. . Considering the adverse sorts- ’ion, these' cattle were yarded in goqdwV- % order and sold at lull market rates--’ Prices lealised were: ’3-year Hereford bullocks, in fair ccndtition, 41year Shorthorn steers, £’7 7s; 25-year . . steers, £’s to £'(s- 10s; 3-year Jersey steers in fair order, to £0; .2-year P. A. steers, £’4- 10s to £4 12s; small year Polled Angus -steers. 25-year Friesian steers in poor v eoudi* f tion, to £3 17s (Id; fat cows, to £o 10s; yearling Hereford heifers, poor competition to £2; well-grown Jersey heifers, to £4 ; others were passed at £3 5s ; a nice pen of 2-year Polled Angus steers were passed at £si 7s 6d; 4-year Jersey bid leeks, £4 10s. Messrs. I.hilgety and Co. Ltd. report that less than the advertised entry came forward. All classes of cattle were showing the effect of the severe winter, the majority being in low condition. There was an average attendance of buyers from as far as Te Puke dis"t rict. * Competition was lacking on all classics of younger cattle but grown --a tile ’ wejre readily saleable at recent ruling y“jrates.
