Social. \ An excellent programme has been arranged for the social to be held at the .Methodist Church on Wednesday night. Cricket. • The annual meeting of the -Woodlands Cricket- Club will be held! in the Woodlands Halt on Monday next, at 7.30 p.m. All interested are invited to attend. Annual Smoko. The annual smoke concert and presentation of trophies in connection with the Opotiki Rugby season, will take place in the Lyric Hall on Saturday. 30th. September. 90 Temperatures. North Island temperatures on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock were: Opotiki -58 degrees. Auckland 1 , Tanranga and Gisborne -37. Wellington 7>3. and Napier -475. Challenge Accepted. The challenge recently issued by the management committee of the Opotiki Rugby Union for a seven-a-side Rugby match during Recreation Week, has been accepted by the committee of the Opotiki Cricket Association. Opotiki High School, At last week’s meeting of the Auckland Education Board, authority was received from the department- to proceed with plans-and specifications lor a new building at the secondary department of the Opotiki Distric t High School. The proposed building will he on a new site. Preliminary plans prepared by the Education Board provide for a structure of one storey.containing four main class rooms as well as a laboratoiy, library and an arts, crafts and commercial/room.

Recreation Week. “Recreation Week” will commence throughout New Zealand on Saturday next. On Tuesday, 3rd. October, proceedings in •Opotiki will be enlivened with a grand concert andt community sing in the Regent Jfjla 11. On Saturday week.
