ROAD AROUND LAKES
SEALING THIS SUAIALER TIKITEKH HILL JOB Tile deviation of the dangerous Snake Hill at Tikitere, which will shorten the Rotorua-Whakatane highway by approximately 35 chains by eliminating a number of awkward bends, lias been practically completed by the Public Works • Department and it is anticipated that a start will be made shortly on the deviation cm the soutliside of the hill, which will also reduce, the length of the highway by some 25 chains.
A Diesel power shovel with a capacity of 800 yards per day, is engaged on the improvement of the road around the bluff at the southern end of the Rotoiti section of the ynite, and also a 12-yard scoop drawn by a. 95 fiorsepower tractor.
Preparation of the metal base to take tar-sealing on the Potorua-W hakataue main highway on the Rotojna Hill, and the section of road flanking the* lake, has been taken in hand, and permanent surfacing will probably be undertaken during the coming summer season.
When that work has been completed. the road will be practically tin recognisable to motorists who have not travelled over it for the past three or four years, as the alignment has been altered to a major degree, eliminating a number of bends and easing the grade to make the route a first-class highway.
