Opotiki experienced a cold snap yesterday, and’ during a storm at midday. there was a faiily heavy fall of hail in tile borough. Marly in the evening it was evident that, should the weather remain line, a frost would be registered. This morning the countryside was covered with a white coating, hut their was 0 * only a trace of ice on pools in the borough, showing that the ground! has already wanned up appreciably. Marly potatoes in exposed, positions were nipped. Fcotbdli Final. The final game for the Opotiki senior championship will be played at the reserve to-morrow. The Dennis Hickey Memorial Cup will be at stake, this being the first year of tompetion for this trophy. The Opotiki Rugby l nie-n is donating badges to the members of the teams winning their respective grades. This should produce a good game in concluding the season’s fixtures. Players and spectators are reel nested to note the change in commencing the senior final, which "ill take place at 1 1 o'clock. Saturday Half-hct.day in Opotiki. In an advertisement in this issue, notification is given by a majority ot shopkeepcis in Opotiki, that from the 23n\. ilist. (inclusive), Saturday afternoon will be observed as the statutory half-holiday, and that the late night will be observed ni Friday evening. Commencing from Wednesday next shops will remain open all day on Wednesdays. For a long period, Thursday has been a very 'important shopping day in Opotiki, and shopkeepers are confident that from now on this day will be the “big” .shopping day in Opotiki. Most of those who did not sign a request for a change are willing to fall into line with the majority and only one or two shop-keep-ers appear to be directly opposed to ;in v change in the half-holiday.
