SMITH—BUUGHEM i . . St. Stephen’s Church presented a pretty picture on Wednesday night when Vera Elsie, eldest daughter of Airs. Roughen. of Sydney,. N.S. V'.', was married to .Tallies Crawford Smith, only son of Air. and Airs. J. Smith, of •.Opotiki. l?ev. C. Cr. G. Salt conducted the service. The church had been beautifully decorated by friends” .with lilies, daffodils, jonquils, and jasmine. The, pews were tied with white ribbon anil furnished with tiny posies of violets, the spring effect being enhanced by large branches of pussy-willow at the windows. The bride, who entered the church cu her mother’s arm, was beautifully gowned iu-white satin, cut on classical lines, fitting closely to the figure and falling in a grace full circular train, being finished at the back with tiny selfcovered buttons from the neck to the waist-line. 'The long, closely-fitting sleeves were finished on the left wrist by a diamante wishbone, holding a true-lover’s knot ol” blue satin ribbon. The veil of bridal net was held in position by a coronet of I'rangipunni. A sheaf ol lilies, tied! with white satin ribbon at one end of which was attached a diamante and. turquoise lioiso,slice, completed the picture. The .matron of honour, Airs. Boughon; who also gave the bride away, was smartly gowned in a cyclamen ensemble, with matching hat, beige shoes and gloves to tone. She carried a bouquet of mauve and purpie stocks, tied with three shades ol ribla u to tone. 'The duties of best man were earned out by Al!r. Harvey Hawkins. The reception was held at Smith’s Cafe, the guests being received by Airs. Bougheu anil Airs. Smith. Airs. Smith chose a pretty blue for her smart ensendde, with navy-blue slu ms and accessories to tone. She cm ril’d a posy o\ yellow poppies tied with matching ribbon. The tables were beautifully decorated with daffodils, pride of place being given to n square wedding cake. '1 he following toasts were given with musical honours:—“The King’’; the “Bride and Bridegroom”, proposed by Air. Huia Hawkini and Air. A. Buff, and responded to by Air. J. C. Smith; the “Bride’s Alother”, proposed by* Air. F. .Hoc and responded to by Air. Jim Smith; the “Groom’s Barents’ ’. proposed by Air. Newman and responded to by Rev. Salt ; the “Best Alan”, proposed! by Al'r. Chambers and responded to by Air. Hickey. “Absent Friends”, proposed by Air. Iluia Hawkins, anil responded to by Air. 'lipping; the “Toast-master”, proposed bv Air. Harvey Hawkins and responded to by Air. T. Hickey. The happy couple were the recipients of many beautiful presents. Air. anil Airs. Smith left for their honeymoon, Mrs. Smith wearing a smart frock and a brown fur coat with slues, hat. hag and gloves to tone, completing her toilette.
