Taneatua. The contents cl: this letter have a!reacliy been published in the Mews. 'The council passed a. resolution upholding the action of the chairman at the meeting. In view of the fact that Air. Hultcjuist is withholding the information given to him by the Acting Prime Minister, the council also decided to v.rite to the Hon. P. Fraser, asking him. to instruct the member to give this information to the council. Cr. C. Black said that the meeting had been called for the ••purpose of securing an expression of opinion from the people of the district. Air. Gault concurred with Cr. Black’s opinion and sail! that the member had been against holding the meeting at all. Cr. It. Medley said that when Mr. Ikdtqiiist attended a, Whakatane meeting he was eager to do what the meeting asked, hut when he came to Opotiki he tried to smash the meeting. The speaker then asked the chairman if the member liadl asked to be invited to the meeting. Air. (fault: Yes. Cr. Medley said the public did not know that. ’The member had invited himself. He wanted to make that point, quite clear. The chairman, said that they dill not want a political address. Cr. Burke concluded the discussion by saving that it was a meeting ol tin* pub! ic.
