Consideration of Appointments.

Only -one application was received by the hoard for the position of matron of the Opotiki hospital, that of Miss J. Waugh. On the motion, of tlie chairman, seconded by Mr. Clark, .Miss Waugh was appointed to the vacancy. Twc> applications were received for the position of; medical superintendent, those of Dr. H. J. Mail and Dr. Clifford Samuel James. Numerous testimonials accompanied the applications.

A discussion arose as to whether irresolution dealing with Dr. Budd’s house had ever been minuted. The secretary stated that lie could not find any,, such minute. He had approached the'late secretary, who had toldi him that it was not legal ib put a resolution to the effect that the purchaser of Dr. Budd’s house should have preference for the position of superintendent.

The discussion arose out of a question asked by Mr. Clark in connection with Dr. Mail's appointment to the position of superintendent, after Dr. Budd’s retirement from the position.

Mr. Moody said he would second Mr. Baigent’s amendment if Mr. Clark would withdraw his amendment. 3Lr. Clark agreed to db this and Mr. MJoody then seconded Mr. Baigent’s amendment.

Mr. Baigent contended that there had not been sufficient evidence to warrant Dr. Mail’s dismissal, Really no evidence had been jjreduced. The amendment was then put to the meeting, tlio voting being:— For: Messrs. MbDonnell, Clark,. Baigent, Moody. Against : Messrs. S. Maxwell, Neilson, ShaKoon and Brown. The chairman gave his . casting vote against. The motion was then put to the meeting, the voting being reversed. On the casting vote of the chairman.
