Opotiki Residents Abroad. Several Opotiki residents are at present in . England, and these, presumably will have some difficulty in returning to * New Zealand iox* some time. As it was. there had been such o rush to book passages out to New Zealand;> that boats were booked up several months ahead. No. doubt severuGet these boats will now be required as troop carriers, resulting in further delays.

Boxing. At the provincial amateur boxing contests recently field in Auckland Yt. K. Post Office Busy. These owners will not be allowed! to use their ears for pleasure until restrictions', are lifted), and in any ''ease have no chance of securing further benzine supplies as quantities held by motorists must be notified to the authorities when making application for a license.
Dance Alteration. The committee of the O.D.H.S. Old Pupils’ Association announce in our advertising columns that their annual ball, arranged for Monday next "ill gov/ take the form of a grand dance, the proceeds of which will assist the Red C ross funds. Tajnui Cup Wan. By a margin of four points, the Mata tun Rugby team, representing the Bay ef Plenty, defeated the Ngatiporou team, and secured possession of the .Tainui Cup in the major fixture of the East Coast 1939 season, the jit-ore being 13—9. The game attracted a large attendance. Thei weather oil the coast was ideal, and the ground was in excellent condition. The visiting team was the better cn the-day, and thoroughly deserved their win. Emery, Dodd. Kingi and! Merito were the most prominent- of the Mhtatua forwards. In the back line Kani, the first five-eighth,- was outstanding. El ilohapata played a fine game at centre, his attacking and defensive work being good. Crapp. the fullhack. was safe, his line-kicking gaining a lot of ground. The Bay team; was practically a Whnkatanc one, no players being available from the Rnngitaiki or Opotiki teams.
