Hudson, a Dunedin business -nian, who has just returned from tlie Continent, says one thijng that stands out is that the Italians do not think much of the Germans, and-it is the same story in the Reich —Gcyman "people,,.haye.-Jtat - miration for .the Italians: Germany wanted ft#'*' materials and wanted them so badly that she was willing to do almost anything to get them. Most of the German people would follow Herr Hitler, said Mr. Hudson. He had promised certain things and had fulfilled his promises. Germany believed in him. Britain would not be caught ping, added Mr. Hudson, who said h© was surprised at the extent of the country's preparations. Britain was preparing to defend herself, and the British people generally would think first of themselves in the event of war. From what he could gather New Zealand would be expected to do her own defending if war broke out.
