OPOTIKI ANNUAL MEETING V;HRY, SUCCESSFUL SEASON Although the attendance was hot as. large- as could be expected, great- keenness was shown byx those who were present at the annual meeting of tlie Opotiki Amateur;; Athletic and Cycling Club, held in the Mission Hall on Friday night. 'The chair was occupied by the retiring president, Mr. O. TablT. The minutes of the previous annual, meeting were lead by the. secretary. Ml-. ’EI .Upton. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. D. Beattie, de Montalk, 8. M. Jephson, JMeCiildcn. 'The annual report was. presented by tlie secretary, while the treasurer, Air. J). Debreceny presented* a very comprehensive statement of the financial 'affairs of the club. Oil the motion of Mr. Button, seconded by. Air. T. Hic-key, the report and balancesheet were adopted. The. balance-sheet showed that the club commenced the season with a credit balance of 11s lid and finished the year with a credit of £ll 16s 4d. Receipts included: Nine night meetings, £22 19s Od ; two clay meetings, £27 17s 3d!; two danc-es, £44 13s 9d honorary subscriptions. £l3 5s 6d. Total receipts were £ll6 17s. On the. expenditure side, the dub paid off the sum of £l.B Is 6d for plant; hurdles, cost £5. 'Travelling expenses amounted to- the moderate sum of £8 7s 6-d, while trophies accounted for £l7 12s. 3d. Election of Officers . The election of officers resulted asfollows:— Patrons. Messrs. G. S. ALoody and J. W. Gordon (re-elected). Before vacating the chair tlie retiring president thanked the members of the committee ie-r their assistance. Mr. T’ahh expressed appreciation pi: the work clone by the secretary who had been a great help to him, and also referred to the efficient way in which the treasurer had performed his duties. Mr. Tabb concluded his remarks by referring to the help given by the members of the school staff and Airs. Hampton, the latter having shewn great interest in the lady competitors. I’residlent, Air. T. Hickey. Yice-presidlents, Messrs. Jephson and AlcCaldon. - Hon. Surgeons, Drs. A. J. Brass and H. Mail. Secretary: Air. Tabb offered to take on the work temporarily, with the assistance of Air. D. Debreceny. Air. Button, also offered to. assist as much as possible. The meeting decided to place o-n record appreciation of the services of the late secretary and treasurer. Treasurer. Air. J. inskip. Hon. Auditor, Air. A .G. Burton.— The secretary was instructed to write a. letter of thanks to Mr. Burton lor his services. General Committee: Officers and Messrs. R. «D. Black, Griffin, de Anontalk, Aid I wraith, Hector Gordon-,. Carter, Delamere, D. Beattie, E. Upton, Button, D. Debreceny and A!rs_ A. O. Hampton. Mr. Hickey thanked Air. Shaw, the retiring field events handicappor:. for his services, and expressed regret • \ that lie was no Unger in a position tocarry on as 'handicappor. Club Captain, Mr. E. Upton; Subscriptions were fixed as followsseniors 5/-. ladies 3/6. junior 26. primary free. General Business It was decided to continue holding; fortnightly meetings, the first meeting to be held not sooner than November . Friday was fixed as the merlin g nights. Air. Upton moved that it he a recommendation to the incoming committee that the dub affiliate with they Auckland Cycling Centre. Hurdles.—After some discussion on. £he matter, it was resolved to recommend to the iuc-oming committee that, the- club’s hurdles he disposed of. Account.—-The president and treasurer were authorised ten operate on the club’s hanking account. Aleeting.—lt was decided to hoick the first committee meeting cm September 25. It was stated that a special Centennial night meeting would probably beheld during the season, the proceeds' to go towards the Opotiki Centennial Committee. Mr. Button reported on several, matters in connection with the Physical AYelfare and Recreation Committee. A vote of' thanks to the chair concluded the meeting. ANNUAL REPORT The annual report was presented as .
follows : Tim club has had a most successful season, the programme being a very mii one. To Puke Club held a meeting oil Labour Day and the Opotiki c.uib was fortunate in being represented. The dub was also represented at Rotorua on Boxing Day. Gisborne on Anniversary Day and at the South Auckland Championships at Tauranga. A representative was present at the Auckland junior championships at Auckland and the dub was represented at Tauranga on Easter Monday. A most successful inter-club meeting was held for the Moody Danner. Although there was not a very large attendance from outside clubs owing to t!u> heavy season, competition was keen and Gisborne again retained the Li. 8. .Moody banner, although closely contested by Opotiki. The club licit! a most sineessiul wind-up meeting with several very (contested finishes with good times. r i he trophies won during the day were presented at u later date. ihe team which visited J c Puke, under Mr. -B. Anderson, had a very good day. Messrs. Wilson, lnsltip and i ptoii. who visited Kotorua, had a win each. The team which visited Gjsl.onuD although handicapped by the wet tracks, had a real day out, both cyclists and runners performing very creditably, with several wins. On the visit to. the S.A. Championships at Tauranga- Mr. Inskip won the junior broad jump;. Messrs. Shoeran and L. Beattie also, performing well in the face of strung opposition. Unit TLunatoly no .seniors were able to tiavel. Mr. Inskip did not retain his title at the Auckland junior championships, but performed very well under the conditions, which were very severe. The team of cyclists, Messrs. Storer Bros. iim.NL Vercue, which visited Tauranga, found the opposition was too strong owing to much better Gaining facilities andl regular intoriTn•, competition. in general the season was very successful, the trophies won being well distributed among the competitors. The social side of the dub was well c-iiL-rcd for and two very successful dances were held and -both were a credit to the club. The dub has been most fortunate in lulling a verv energetic committee, which lias now placed the dub ill a very fortunate position. iSpocini thanks are - due to. -Mrs. Hampton for the line work she has done in helping the club along with it.- hulv members'. Although the number of lady, competitors is not large, the members are. real assets to the dub. Messrs. Parkinson Bros, have helped the dub considerably with their public address system and have made the night meetings most attractive. The Press has also helped the club and much support has been received from the public in general.
