Drake Bros, and driven by Mr. Crombie was totally destroyed by fire shortly after nine o’clock yesterday morning. The lire occurred at about two miles on 1 , the Opotiki side of Hicks Bay just after the car .had passed through a small creek on its way • from Te Araroa to Te Kaha. The three passengers and the driver quickly jumped out of the car and when the driver raised thy bonnet it was evident that the fire had a strong hold before it was noticed. All efforts on the part of 'the driver to. suppress the flames .were of no avail, tliei breeze quickly fanning the flames throughout the ear. While the ear was passing through the creek the engine backfired twice, and it is thought that the carburettor took lire.
