MOTORIST IMPRISONED DRUNK LX CHARGE COMPANION ALSO FIXER Facing a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a. ear. Walter Paki Tutahi. a public works employee, of iKklgecumbe, was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, Ids license being cancelled for 12" months. The ease was heard before Messrs, (L S. -Moody and F. J. Short, J’s.P., at the Opotiki Courthouse this morning, and Sergeant Ishister conducted proceedings on behalf of the police. Sergeant Ishister stated that at A.-15 oil Saturday evening, he and Constable Cooper questioned a. man named' Savage who was sitting in they front of a car in Kelly Street. Savage stated that the owner of the ear was away Imt accused was noticed asleep in the hack of the car. The police moved away and shortly afterwards the ea*r drove away hut t unstable Cooper succeeded in. stopping it-. Accused was in the front, seat driving. Sergeant Ishister produced a medical certificate as to accused’s condition. :. Qu estionedl by the bench, accused stated that he knew that it was the . police who had questioned his oompaujin.
