THE PUBLIC MEETING
Sir,—-May I. be permitted to express m> bumble opinion of the meeting held in the .Parish Hall on Saturday evening last. This is the first “Railway’’ meeting I have attended, and, if the conduct of the meeting and those permitted to address it- are a sample of “.Railway” meetings, it will certainly be the last. 1 have been attending public meetings, political and otherwise, in different parts of New Zealand for well over thirty years, and 1 have no hesitation in saying Saturday night’s exhibition was the worst i have experienced so tar. It lias always ’been regarded,l as fair play to allow a man to state liis ease, but tin’s was denied the member for our district on Saturday evening, and lie was subjected to anything but courtesy at the • hands of th.ose responsible for the conduct of the meeting, and which, to my mind, reflects no credit on the supporters' of the National Party who took part in it. If Saturday evening’s meeting is a sample of what wo may expert if ever the National Party regain power in this country, then well may we sing with heart and voice “God defend New Zealand.” “FAIR PLAY.”
