Member’s Assistance Sought

AIT. Aierry then read a. third resolution, as follows: That Air. A. G. Hultquist, AFP. , for Bay of Plenty, be asked to co-operate to the fullest extent by personal- contact with the Prime Minister or Alinisters concerned in an endeavour to lulfil the wishes of the meeting. As soon as Mr. Aierry had read the resolution, Air. Hultquist remarked: You have gone about it- in the right way; haven’t you ? The resolution was moved by the chairman, who referred to the good work done by the member. He stated that Air. Hultquist had; probablydone more than any other member for the district, and all appreciated that work. Air. T'abb seconded the motion and also referred to Air. Hultquist’s good work • The seconder briefly referred to Air. Hultquist’s remark that he might be a block and said the resident’s were, not blaming the Government a bit because they had had it for the last 40 years. The motion was carried, again with slight opposition. Air. Gault then moved a vote of thanks to Air. Hultqni.st for ing the meeting, and referred to the effort the mem tier had made to be present.

On rising Air. Hultquist stated that he had not been insulted so much before in bis life in any district. He had. wanted to appeal to the people but had been blocked and he had no chance to say anything about an amount to be placed on the supplementary estimates. He challenged Air. ALartin’s road tally figure and said that in Whakatane where the road tallies were considerably higher and where there were far more motorears, that district wa.s liow only having the toads sealed. He could have told them of time spent- in trying to get sealing done. “Thank you for very little.” he remarked. Concluding his remarks Mr. Hultquist -said Opotiki) was got ti fig the railway, but they would not he getting it by practically asking lor the day when the line would start. He thanked God there wore occasions when he could address a political u»hamstrung. lA vote of thanks terminated the meeting.
