FITNESS CAMPAIGN
A meeting of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Committee was held last Thursday, evening. Present: Airs. Hampton, Airy. .O’Sullivan, Alossrs. W. A. Gault, G. S. .Moody (Mayor), C. S. Morris, F. J. Short, A. G. Stevenson, C. Tabb and' G. W. Button (lion, secretary). Air. A. S. de Alontaik presided. Inward and outward correspondence was." approved. Before dealing with any business the chairman welcomed back to the committee, Air. Gault, the County Council representative. Air. Gault had been unable to attend the meetings the last few weeks owing to injuries ho received in a recent accident.
A letter was received from the X.Z. Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation in connection with the survey of facilities which is being taken in every district in N.Z. these surveys are completed the New Zealand Council will then lie in a. position to know the urgent needs of each, partic-' ular area. Air. de Alontaik explained that the main business of the meeting was to consider a petition to the ratepayers in connection wi th the tow it*: hall major scheme. He said the Borough Council had left it to the committee to discuss the next step, as the Council was well aware that the Committee was willing to give the .scheme full support. The committee fully considered the scheme so as to have something definite to> put before:;. the ratepayers. Aloved by Mrs. Hampton a mil seconded by -Mr. Short that the secretary be instructed to write to tlie Centennial Committee to ascertain; whether the Government will be allowed on the Centennial Alemorial (I’Junket and Rest"'Roomy), A if the memorial is incorporated in - Vise town hall scheme.
Lt was resolved to give the Centennial AJeniorial full support in order that the'.town, hall scheme -may lie carried oiit. The New Zealand Council granted permission to elect additional members on the committee and the following wore appointed: Airs. Potts, Alossrs. T. Hickey and T. G. Johnson. Airs. R. O’Sullivan handed 1 in her resignation, as she is leaving the district. Airs. O’Sullivan’s resignation was received with regret and it was decided to place on record the services she bad rendered since the committee had been formed. Airs. A. S. de Alontaik was appointed to fill the vacancy.
