Contract No. 581 for gravelling 1. mile. 74 chains Omaramutu road,.and Contract No-. 585 for reforming and gravelling 05 chains AA’oodhuids dip road have been completed. Damage to Reads At the end of last April 1 inspected the AA’hitikau road. At that time 1 found that damage- done to the read by J. Sloan liadyiot- been made good. Recently 1 hdvcdfiad complaints with reference to the state of this road, i had an inspection made, and the report was that- the road is in a very bad . ) condition. I have instructed Air. Sloan to make good the damage, otherwise the council will have the work done' at his expense. ij I would recommend that the Conn- .• cil prohibit that class of cartage till the end of October, and also prohibit the cartage of gravel on the Torere j road. If this is done there may be f some chance of keeping these roads in ( fair order in the winter months. / ■ Additional Lorry. / . ’ * *' ' 1 would like tin 1 council to consider ; getting another lorry. There are n- w ' .•lo- many of the roads in the county ... that have been hietalled and requite continual liiaiuteiufiice, there is plenty of work toi keep two vehicles going. The gravel beds depleted Of metal so that it is now necessarv to go further afield foijjS mate rials; which fneans that when only one vehicle is (being used, the men' loading are idle, for quite a while.
