W A JOT AH I MONTHLY MEETING There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Waiotahi W omen’s Institute held en July 12. Airs. Woolfield. president of the' Federation gave a most interesting report of the Dominion Council meeting held in January. Shoulder sprays were- presented to Airs. Woolfield, and to Airs. Gault, •president of the Gtara W omen s 1 institute, which provided an exchange programme for the afternoon. A splendid entertainment was given by members of the visiting institute. Songs by Airs. C. Black. “Pale Aloon” and “Open Your Window to the Aiorn” were much appreciated. A humorous reading by Airs. K. Brown, and a competition dealing with local surnames caused much amusement. Mrs. Jeffery and Airs. Young being the winners'. The Golden Thread was given by Airs. Black on “The origin of the name ‘AlacKenzie Country’ ’ . A roll-call “Impromptu Speeches’’ was well responded to, and a “Comb Orchestra” gave a thrilling rendering of well-known airs, with Airs. I*. Black as accompanist. Aliss Harrison gave a very interesting demonstration of curing skins with baking soda, and making a quilt with wool. lii honour of her approaching marriage, Airs" B. I iOgan presented Aliss Al. ])u J’ontet with a handsome electric toaster, with the good wishes of all members of tlie Institute. Aliss i)u Pontet. expressed her appreciation of the gift, and was also presented with a lovely posy of daphne by Airs. L. Looney. The competitions were judged by Airs. Cranswick of Waimana, and resulted' as follows: Best Bloom: Airs. W. L. Looney 1, Airs. Snell 2. Best Vegetable: Airs. Burke 1. Afternoon tea was served by Al.es- . dames Jeffery. Snell, McKinnon and Watson, and the singing of the Na- — tionai Anthem brought tho afternoon to a close. WAIOTAHI CARDEN CIRCLE There was a good attendance at the June meeting of the Waiotahi Garden Circle, held*" at Alls. C. Hill’s residence. It was decided to have a roll call ol “garden hints ’ at each meeting. A competition “Jumbled Flower Names” was won by Airs. Jessop. Afternoon tea was enjoyed and members admired ibe garden and the glorious view. A!rs. Hill distributed cuttings of African daisy, pelargonium and hibiscus. Tim next meeting is to be held at Airs. Snell’s home, iu conjunction with the Waiiuii-Waingarara group.

MEETING AT OTARA * A woll-attciuled meeting of the Otar a Women’s Institute was held last night at Miss Neilson’s home. Alter a brief business session, the president, -Mrs. Gault,, thanked all members who had helped at the recent Drama .Festival. The roll call “Impromptu Speeches’' proved most amusing. An exceptionally interesting talk on Egypt was given, by -Mr. do Montalk. Demonstrations on basket-making and poultrydressing were kindly given by Mrs. "Wingate and Airs'. Bennett respectively. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to both ladies and Mr. do -Montalk. The golden thread was given by Mrs. O. Black, who also sang sweetly two songs. A beaut-ilullj lendc red piano solo by -Mrs. Binnegar concluded the programme. Ihe month’s competitions result- " ed as follows:—• Leeks: Mrs. Harrison. 1, Mrs. Beaufoy 2. (Hen Scones: Aliss Tlarrison 1. Airs. - Karp 2. Home-made 'Gadgets: Airs. Beaulo\ 1. Decorations when flowers are .-scarce: Miss Lowe 1. Miss Harrison 2. *•' Votes of thanks were accorded to Miss Ncilson for the use of her homo ( y and to the hostesses, Alesdames ' ' .Deaufoy. Alassey and McKillop. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a meet enjoyable evening.
