HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

, LECTURE AND DISPLAY PRIZES AWARDED The monthly lecture and display evening of the Opotiki and District Horticultural Society was held in the Parish Hall last night. Mr. C. W Reid, vice-president presiding in the absence of the president, Mr. J. D. Clark. There was a fair attendance of members and friends, there being a very creditable display of flowers and shrubs. A most interesting and instructive lecture was given by Mr. N. Macdonald, of Waimana on “Concrete and its uses in the small garden”. The most outstanding exhibit of the evening was won by Mrs Rail’d for a fine bowl el yellow jonquils. The points .prize lor the year in connection with the monthly .joints for the magnificent crystal rose bowl, presented by Mr. W. Lisk, Takapunu, was won by Mrs. Beattie. The second prize, presented bv the Fa liners’ Trading Company. Auckland (a jardiniere), went to .Mrs. McGregor, while Airs. Baird and Mr. Mc.Mil lan tied for third prize. The prizes will he awarded at the display and social evening to be held on September 2. The judge last evening was Airs. Cranswiek. Waimana. •
