WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

WAIMANA-NUKUHOU MEETING . . (News Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Wai-mar.a-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held last Thursday, there being a very good attendance of members, presided over by Mrs. Jerram, Following the Institute song, the president welcomed members of . the Wliakatane Institute, who provided the entertainonent for the afternoon. The usual business was dealt with, and) a most interesting letter was read from .Mrs. \ Clark. Nukuhou North, who > has taken the W.I. trip to England. During the meeting three members were presented with gifts from their fellow members, with best wishes for their future. Mr. Me Ivor and Mrs. I’i shop Wardlaw are to reside in Auckland, and Miss M. Fleming, is to 1)0 married shortly. Mis. Mclvor and Miss Fleming thanked all for tho gills, which were much appreciated, anil Miss K. Wardlaw responded' on behalf of Mrs. Wardlaw. Mrs. Armstrong of Wliakatane then occupied the chair, with Mrs. Norman, (.secretary). The roll call was “Children's Funny Sayings”, which was well responded to. Items were sweetly rendered by the, Glee Club and vocal solos by Mrs. Berry were much appreciated. Mrs. Sutcliffe spoke on Fiji and the handicrafts of the Fijians. 'Hie speaker had a wonderful display of articles from the islands, the talk being most interesting. Several interesting competitions were held, and Mrs. Stewart inn,->t capably demonstrated metal work, which was keenly watched by j rum hers. The day’s competitions were:— Dest Flower: Mrs. Jerram (camelia), 1, Mrs'. Mitchell 2, MVs. Hewitt 3. XL entries. Jar of .Marmalade: Mrs. C. Wylde 1. Miss F. Wardlaw 2, Mrs. F. Bell 3. 7 entries. Fggless Fruit Cake: .Mrs. Hewitt 1, Mrs. Stevenson 2. Mrs. Burnett 3. 4 cut i ies. A delicious afternoon was served., by the hostesses and a hearty vote of ■thanks was passed to Wliakatane J members for the splendid) programme provided.
