Stansbury, presented the following report- of the year’s activities: — ’l'lie annual shew was held on February 17th. under ideal weather conditions and we had the l satisfaction ol it being a uuust- successful fixture.. Competition in most classes equalled and in' some eases exceeded' the previous year. The greatest increase was in tlie sheep section which must have been nearly a record in numbers; tlie
fat sheep- classes making a very finedisplay. Very keen rivalry was'shown in both tlw pig and jersey classes and many creditable entries came forward, indicating proof of the sound progress o-f the breeders.
In the ring events there was good competition and particular mention
should be made o.f the hack and hunter classes which are steadily improving dine no doubt to the enthusiasm of the hunting fraternity. The big jump was keenly contested and our congratulations are line to Air. A\ . i\ Hale for annexing for the year the Dr. Alexander 'Reid Alemorial Cup. In respect, to this particular event I feel a sound recommendation to the new committee would he to consider increasing the prize money. L am sure the members of this association very much appreciate the generosity of Al'r. J. H. lleid in replacing the Memorial Cup which was won outright- last year. Air. 1:1 P. AVoolfiekl is also to he congratulated upon winning outright the cup presented by Air. J. Jl. Reid for the most points in crossbred and fat sheep classes. / t There was fair competition in some sections of the indoor exhibits hut there is still room for great improvement. With the necessary encouragement 1 am sure this could he cue of the main features of the show. The ladies once again did • splendid work especially in organising and conducting the refreshment- room and soft drinks stall, both of which contribute very much towards the popularity of the shew. Their untiring efforts are always very much appreciated and we would take this opportunity of expressing our thanks and appreciation. During the year our patron, Air. J. H. Reid, was unanimously elected a life member of the association as a mark of our appreciation. The grazing lease of the show grounds expired during the year and the lease was renewed for a further term of five years. 1 am pleased to he able toi report the steady improvement in our finance. This i« due largely to the generous manner in which the Opotiki Borough Council mc-t t-ho Association in regard to arrears of rates and also to the lack of any urgent repair work at the show grounds. The following members of the committee retain office for the ensuing year:— Alossrs. F. W. J’cid, AL B. Abbot, G. AM Lowe. A. Gordon, J. r J. Clark, (A Black, P. Looney, W. Beattie, B. I). Looney. Jock Gnskill. , In conclusion I. would like to personally thank, all who have assisted me so much in carrying out my duties
as president, especially to the ladies’ committee, the judges, stewards,;’ auditors, exhibitors, and the press.
