OPOTIKI MILITARY DANCE TROPHIES PRES Et\ TED The military dance held in the Lyric Hall last night proved to be an outstanding success in every way, and was very largely attended, and dancing did not conclude until the early hours of the morning. The music was supplied hy Mc-Oougall’s Hot Scots, with au extra by Mr. Ray Smith. Monte Carlos were won by Miss Al. Smith and Mr. C. Shalloon; Mr. and Mrs. A. El. Martin. A novelty foxtrot was won by Mrs. H. Newtli and partner.—... The duties of M.U. were capably carried out by Mr. J. Parkinson.
The dance room was very attractively decorated with streamers, balloons and greenery. The trophies lor presentation, were set out upon a table which was appropriately covered with the Union Jack. Easy chairs were provided for the visiting ladies. A very dainty supper was provided During an interval the presentation of trapines was made. His worship the Mayor (Mr. G. S. Moody), presented to Corn!. Roy E. Forbes the cup for the' smartest soldier. Ihe junior 'officers efficiency cup, won by incut. J. G. AlfteKay, was presented by Major -C. Le Lievre, officer commanding the Hauraki Regiment-. The Hume Trophy wen by the Opotiki Platoon, was alsp. presented. The cup for the champion shot in Opotiki, won by L.-Corpl. B. H. YACHT CjLUB DANCE TROPHIES PRESENTED A very enjoyable- invitation, evening was- helcll in the Wattle tea-rooms on Tuesday, when the presentation ot trophies won by members of the'Opotiki Yacht. Club, was made. A ,wel--ccinc to all. was extended by Air. R. UaiTutbers, items by the Kit Kat. orchestra were followed „by a clever display of tap-dancing by Miss B. Carruthers. The c-lub’s patron, Mr. J. O’Sullivan senr., spoke in glowing terms cf the work done by the- club in the short time it has been in exist-, ence. -Mr. O’Sullivan offered to present a trophy for the coming season. Trophies for the season were presented as follows: .McGregor Cup- end miniatures to “Vikjing”. Air. C. {Mclennan '(captain), -Mr. Li.' Burton and Air. H. Varley (crew). Wright .Trophy, “Flying Cloud,” -Mr. F. Talbot (captain), ALr. C. Carruthers and! I). Talbot- (crew). 'The -McGregor Pennant, “Le Laid,” Air. W. E. Larmer (captain). After musical items by Air. \V.
