QUAKER MARRIAGE
LARGE GATHERING PRESENT A large gathering; saw a. bride and bridegroom marry themselves in a hall at .Blackpool, England—no minister or registrar was present. The couple were Aliss Alary Cumber bach, of Preston crescent, Blackpool, and Air. Lawrence Cowling, a local baker. 'They are Quakers, and. the only “official” present was another Quaker from Preston, wlu> attends all swell ceremonies in tlia. north-western, area. The ceremony was a simple one. The bride and bridegroom sat side Inside for a few minute.s until all was. quiet. Then the bridegroom rose .and made a vow which his bride repeated. At intervals various persons in the congregation rose and offered a prayer or made a short speech. After the marriage, the couple were presented with three books by friends. '
Air. Cowling first- met liis bride at a Quaker meeting and the wedding took place in the sama meeting hall. “It was a case of love at first sight,” Air. Cowling said. His bride smilingly agreed. -
