GENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

COMMITTEE MEETINC MEMORIAL SUGGESTED The Opotiki Centennial Celebrations Committee met last night in the Mission Hall. The .Mayor, Mr. G. S. Mt’ody. presided over a good l attendance. The minutes of the previous general meeting were read and confirmed' and outward correspondence approved. Inward correspondence consisted, ol reports of meetings from Auckland Provincial Executive and the National Council, the latter report including memorials sanctioned for the Auckland Province. The report also included the sanctioning of the Opotiki Memorial of Phmket and Rest Rooms as submitted by the Opotiki Borough Council spine time ago. The newly appointed general secretary reported activities of the executive.

The recommendation of the general committee that a. treasurer be appointed was referred back to the executive to make an appointment. Considerable discussion followed concerning the fixing of dates and it was decided to commence with a day set aside for Maoris. Six dates were chosen from 29th. January to 13th. March. Rev. A. C. Hampton was appointed convener to arrange church services. The action of the Rorcugh Council in submitting the Plunket and rest room as a memorial, was approved, and it was suggested that this memorial he incorporated in the town hall scheme. it was decided to write to the council giving unanimous support and suggesting the incorporation of tlie memorial in the town hall scheme. It was decidedl to appoint several sub-committees. It was resolved to sell badges, the purchase of which was left to the executive. Several suggestions were made to the executive, including the putting on of plays by the school, and also a stock, drive. It- was decided to open a subscription list in. the “Cross”. Committee members-, were asked to note the general committee meetings will be held in the Mission Hall on the last 'Thursday in-each month at 8 p.m.
