OPOTIKI ORPHANS' CLUB

SECOND EVENING ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME The second evening of the Opotiki Orphans’ Club held in the' Masonic Hall last night was presided over by the club’s president, Pro. G.. Dawson. There was a good attendance of 'members and visitors.- . Proceedings were opened with the National Anthem. The enjoyable programme included items by the ■ orchestra milder the leadership of Bro. >S, MacDoligall. A toast to new members and Visitors was proposed by Bro. East. The Orphans’ ode was played by. Bro. Simpson and vocal solos ‘wore* rendered by Bro. T. Bodman. Bro. B: G. -.Eldwards (Rotor.ua); responded to* the toast oU behalf of the visitors. Community singing was led by Bro.- Simpson and vocal solos were given by Bro. G. E. Watson. An enjoyable .broadcasting programme was given by Bro. E. Wrigley andi a. topical broadcast by Bro. Peagram. A recitation. by~Bro. Sotheran was followed by a savoury : slipper served by the chief steward, Bro. Keith Forbes, and his able assistants. Orchestral items were .'interspersed with topical verses. A tin whistle solo was given by Bro. Roy Smith and Bros. A. Campbell, S. Jeplison and A. EL Reece sang se-low. Or-, chestral items were followed by the, singiiig of “Auld Lang Syiie.’f- '/ •
