Alanuers and Customs of tho present day are preferable to those of HO years ago," was debated. The debate was preceded by a manuccpiin parade of dresses of 150 years ago as compared with those of to-day. Many interesting and beautiful 1 rocks were on display and the manuetniius entered into the. spirit of the parade causing considerable amusement. .Point?* of interest in the frocks, were commented on by 31 r. Hoy, Parkcs, who introduced the wearers ci the carious tvpes of dress. Bridal gowns, tennis frocks, bathing suits, evening gown-,, niciiit attire and many other types cd ancient a.nd modern dress were iuer seated t<; the large and amused audience. Trie parade created a favourable atmosphere for the debate which followed and which was ably contested. 3h\ Ck B. 31 array acted as chairman. * while Mr. A. S. cle Montalk judged the contest. The affirmative of the debate was taken by Mr. H. (5. Simpson (leader), 31 r. H. CT. Beeves, Mr. * I). Debreceny and Miss AlcLean. the negative was argued hy 31 r. l>. G. f Beattie (leader), 3lr. H.
