PHILIPPINE! ISLANDS U.S. PROTECTION NEEDED The Philippine Assembly heard yesterday the first- open appeal for the reexamination of the question of Philippine independence, which has been constantly advocated for 20 years by Philipino politicians. A member of the. Assembly, Mr. Carlos Tan, wliO' recently returned from abroad, said that he had seen how Shanghai had! been reduced to a. shambles,- and. observed, the growing* dangers which Were besetting the Philippines. “Suppose we get our independence now.” 31 r.
