BLOCK OF. NEW SHOPS C’ONSTH U CTION IN OPOTIKI OPPOSITE! POST OFFICE. One .of the most progressive building schemes undertaken in Opotiki for many years, will be commenced at an early date, when a block of four shops will be constructed opposite the Post Office*. The shops, which arc mudernly designed, are being built on behalf of three local businessmen, the contractor being Mr. It. H. Davidson, The building will occupy; the block off land on J:he southern side of the Bank of New Zealand, facing Church Street. A start has already been made in the work of clearing trees, from the property and levelling tlie ground. When completed, the shops should present a very: modern appearance, and! should greatly improve the business area of the town. The fronts will be constructed of black vitro lite, and the window frames will be of chromium. The building will be set back three feet from the footpath to allow additional room for pedestrians. Tlie total frontage of the shops will he 75 feet and the depth avill be GO feet, lleinforced concrete will lie used for the construction, of the building. The,lighting system is receiving special attention; and community lighting will he used in the front of the shoos.
