Snow at Matawai, During the cold snap cn Tuesday, snow fell in the Matawai township early on Tuesday evening, while during the day there were heavy falls on the surrounding hills. Temperatures. Temperatures at various places in the North Island at 9 a.m. yesterday were: Auckland 5S degrees, Tauranga 52. Opotiki 41. Fast Cape and Gisborne 45, Napier 43. and Wellington 51. Power Shut-down. 'The Power Hoard notifies consumers that the electric supply will be cut off the whole of the board’s area on Sunday between the hours of 1.130 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. All areas east of Waiotahi. including Waiotahi Valley. will b.e cut off until 8 p.m. Record Frost. According to a message from Tikitiki, the heaviest frost on record at the northern end of the Coast was experienced' yesterday .morning. A frost of 14 degrees was registered in the -Alaraehara. Valley, while at 'ljjkitiki the reading was 13 degrees. This was- tlic.l first frost of the winter, A frost of 13.3 degrees .was registered at Gisborne yesterday morning, a record for .Gisborne since, the opening of the meteorological station at the aerodrome! in April, ]937.
