TRANSPORT LICENSING
WARNING BY AUTHORITY MANURE FROM RAILHEAD SHIPPING COMPANY OBJECTION TO RATE :,to A sitting of the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority was held in Opotiki on Wednesday when the Authority, Mr. E. 3f - . Phelan, dealt with various licenses. ■ At the outset Mr. Phelan stated that his examining officers had reported to him tliat a considerable number of licenses in the No,, 1 dis>trict : Were not keeping proper books and were in,*-other respects not complying witlr-J:iie,>.requirements of the transport regulations. If such brt|,dies continued he would have to seriously consider a- review of the licenses of the defaulters. Mr. HisJop (Opotiki Carriers’ Association), assured Mr. Phelan that so far as the Opotiki District operators were concerned: the majority were now having tlieir books kept by competent men, and' were otherwise endeavouring to comply with all the regulations. The following licenses were renewed : Drake Bros. : passenger service, Opotiki-Oape Runaway. Drake Bros. : Continuous goodsserviee. H. Hei: Continuous goods service. In this license the Authority deleted the right .to- carry twoi passengers. W. J. Walker: Continuous goodsseivice. - . A. E. Reece; Continuous goods-scr-vice. M. K. Debrecepy: Continuous goods-service-A. W. Turner: Continuous goedsserviee. N. A. Dillcs: Public Works and local bodies service. _ . Drake Bros., (Mr. Bunkall) applied for a transfer of the license by* W. Butler, Omaio, such, transfer being granted.
H. ' Rua, .Waimana (Mr. Hodgson) applied! for a route license for the cel- ( lection of'cream. This application was opposed by. the Carriers’ Association. After considerable evidence had been heard the Authority adjourned the case to enable the parties to confer. On resuming Messrs. Hodgson and Hislop reported that an agreement had been come to and the license was granted. The route license at Waimana held by Kiakita Hori was revoked. Application was made by C. H. Evans' of - Hides Ray" for a renewal of bis goods-,service license with amendments giving litm the right to operate in "the Opotiki County, and for as additional vehicle authority. The amendments were opposed by the Carriers’ Association and the applicant withdrew.'' his application to operate in* the Opotiki County. His license was renewed, the application tor an additional vehicle authority .being adjourned to the next sitting of the authority at To Puia. The Authority stated that a condition of the renewals of all licenses was that all were bound by price fixation, full details of which would be forwarded to licensees with their new licenses. Mr.-Carson of the Northern Steam Ship Company drew the Authority’s attention to the proposed low rata for cartage of manure,.from Taneatua. Ho claimed that such was an endeavour to have all manure delivered ex train as against delivery ex boat. 'Hie Authority stated tliat while assuring the carrier an economic rate for cartage he-pniusk consider the farmers, but he. would note Mr. Carsou’s contentions. Mr. Hislop informed the Authority that to obviate overlapping in the collection of bobby calves an agreement bad been, reached by the carriers concerned as to their respective districts. Thd- Authority stated tliat one of the objects of the Transport was* to reduce overhead expenses by co-ordination, and be was pleased to bear of the arrangement made.
